When in Gothenburg. Strategy continues…

Good morning!

Wishing you a beautiful weekend. After the exhaustion of Leg 10, we are now recovering for some days in Sweden. Gothenburg is a beautiful place. We have learned that Gothenburg is the headquarters home for the Volvo Group, one of the main sponsors of our Volvo Ocean Race. While its core activity is the production, distribution, and sale of trucks, buses and construction equipment, Volvo also supplies marine and industrial drive systems and financial services.

I am sure you already know that Volvo Ocean Race changed its owners some days ago. “At the end of May, it was announced that a new team of Richard Brisius, Johan Salen, and Jan Litborn were taking over the ownership and management of the 45-year-old fully crewed round the Volvo Ocean Race”. Last November Brisius and Salen were made President and co-President of the current edition of the Volvo Ocean Race, taking over the role from the former CEO Mark Turner who resigned suddenly in late October 2017. Volvo will stay on as a sponsor, but they have passed the race ownership and management to a new team”.

We wished to share this with you because it is really interesting to see ownership transitions in organizations. Part of my role as a corporate strategist is to help the owners in those transition processes. We will see future changes. I hope to continue writing next to the Volvo Ocean Race future editions. Remember we owe you three topics for next VOR editions. Each of the next topics will require at least 9 months (each) of blogging as we did it for the 2017-2018 Eleonora EscalanteStrategy Race: (1) Poverty in the world and how to solve it, (2) Blue Ocean Strategy-Methodology Approach (with examples and exercises) and (3) How to analyze country contexts when deciding to invest (PESTLE will be covered here as one of the frameworks). journey writing.gifWe also have beautiful news for you. Personally, I will dedicate the next couple of years, to write about my first and new book (which is not named yet) but it is going to be about Integral Strategy and how to strategize businesses with “awe”. I am glad the next VOR edition will be probably in 2021. I will have enough time for my book production, edition and publication then. I have a goal in mind: a journey to become a published author.

Let´s see what we will do over the next and last Leg 11, from Gothenburg to The Hague.

Leg 11 from Gothenburg to The Hague.jpg

Before leaving to The Hague, we will post something about Gothenburg (as usual, we always dedicate some publications to each of the host cities). In 4 days from now, MAPFRE, Team Brunel and Dongfeng (three teams which are tied or even with the same amount of points overall), will start the definitory and last leg which will reveal the final winner in The Hague. We believe it is going to be an epic Leg 11 to The Netherlands.

This is all for today. Have a beautiful weekend. Expect the unexpected with Leg 11. That is all we can say at the moment.

Thank you.
