Value Propositions: Theory and cases. Episode 11. Let´s practice. Example 3. A Sustainable Printer for Estonia

Wishing you all the best for this second lovely weekend of April. Today we continue with our journey of practicing how to do value propositions. Our example of this episode is about a sustainable printing solution for the teachers of Estonia.

A sustainable printing solution for Estonia Education.
We decided to explore the Estonia market, not just because of its particularities concerning the European Union’s bet towards the digital, but in the context of its excessive digitalization. Estonia is a fascinating country that has been trying to build its essence for centuries. Since its origins, with the Christianization of the Order of the Brothers of the Sword (the 13th century), Estonia has been searching for its own path. It is one of these countries that was never free. The Teutonic Germanic Knights, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, and Lithuania were incessantly conquering their lands. After Russia recognized its Independence in 1991, Estonia was unrestrained for the first time in its existence. We wonder if Estonia is truly paving the foundations for its free future, or if it will end up tied into “too much of technological excessiveness”. The teachers of Estonia have the answer.

The entrepreneurs of today wish to launch a sustainable ink printing system for the teachers of Estonia. Since this country has branded itself as an electronic digital economy, the entrepreneurs acknowledged that if they wanted to sell printers they must do it in Estonia. If they can sell printers in Estonia, they can do it anywhere. When I was searching on the Internet about sustainable printers, I found randomly an interesting patent by Mr. Carl Yee. He has patented a self-erasing ink in 2017. If you are interested to know about his technological innovation feel free to contact him directly at his website https://blueplanetink.com/ and here too: https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=1519546

His ink inspired me to adjust the product in a way that could be launched with the 4 main printer manufacturers in the world: Canon, Epson, Brother, and Hewlett-Packard. We are simply modifying the nature of Yee´s patent terms for this example, to procure an interesting model for our readers. A self-erasing ink with a natural components formula that can disappear from the paper after 30 days it was printed, with a reutilization promise of the same paper for 50 print times over and over again. This innovation may help to reduce the burden of throwing paper after one usage in Education. Be sure that we are not in any way tied commercially to any venture of Mr. Yee, but his invention looks promising for the reasons that you will discover by reading our package of slides. In any case, in the worst of scenarios, as a professor, I would love to have a printer that operates with self-erasing ink, so I can use the same pages to print as many times as I wish. The same sheets of paper can be reused for more prints. Print-outs can be re-utilized with the students if they use the same self-disappearing ink with their markers or pens.

Your weekend homework is to create and design a customer value proposition for this case. Find all the information that you require to do it in the following document. There are 51 slides, that you can share, download and print. Please again, we advise you to try to do the CVP for the sustainable printing system, with the customer profile of the Estonian teachers. Only by trying to accomplish it, you will be able to learn. Otherwise, it is a waste of time to just wait for our solution which will be uploaded next Monday. Visit the references from the bibliography. Read them thoroughly. And go ahead, try to fill the slides that are waiting for you there. The solution to this complex Estonian case is in the attachment below.

Returning on Monday to upload our solution. Every Monday we post our solution to this case. Find in the following attachment our solution to your homework. We have drafted the first Customer Value Proposition for this case.  We truly expect you will be animated to compare with what you did over the weekend. Our notes are included in our analysis. Click below to find the updated document, I will add additional reflections as soon as I can.

Announcement.
Please remember that we publish our frame-of-reference slides only on Fridays, and we upload our strategic reflections later. As of today, I will leave you with enough homework for the weekend, and on Monday we upload our solution. Let´s see how it will work. We always publish at the latest before 11:59 pm (CST). The 12th episode is about a luxury precious stone for jewelry, and it will be published next Friday 19th of April.

Musical Section.
This saga is about improvement, amelioration, upgrading, and the advancement required in the theory and practice of value propositions. Value propositions are the first step in our business modeling frameworks. If the value proposition is improper, then our business model is mistaken. Therefore, we will also share the music of classical progress that marked a before and after in the history of music.

Aujourd´hui we wish to share the music of a French composer and flautist Jean Daniel Braun (1703-1738). Little we know about him, but his collection of flute and bassoon music made him a unique virtuoso performer on the transverse flute in Paris. His music has accompanied me this week while producing our material for today. The interpreters of Braun oeuvres are Musica Ad Rhenum and Jed Wentz. The video has been prepared by Brilliant Classics.
