Leg 11 From Gothenburg to The Hague (I). Integral Strategy Introduction

Good afternoon for all!

Yes, we are sailing. We departed yesterday with the rest of the teams from Gothenburg, but we couldn´t post anything until today.  We were trying to narrow all the relevant business ethics material to 8 slides. Sorry for not writing yesterday.

But here we are, after 31 hours of sailing, where all the fleet has gone from Gothenburg, up north to the coast of Norway (near Helgeroa), and returned back to Aarhus, Denmark, just to go up again in our way around the Danish coast. Dongfeng and Mapfre are in first and second place, followed by Vestas, Akzonobel, and Brunel. Here you can see the position of the fleet at this time:

Today we will start by providing you with an introduction to the theme: Integral Strategy.

happy teacher´s day

June 22nd: Teacher´s day in El Salvador.

This is our domain, and we are really happy to share it on Teacher´s day in El Salvador. Every 22nd of June, Teachers’ Day in El Salvador is observed as a national holiday. It is a special day for the appreciation of Professors and may include celebrations to honor them for their special contributions in a particular field area, or the community in general.

Let´s go to our material prepared for you today: Please read the slides, it is the first step in our journey to The Hague. Thank you.

After reading the slides we believe you are now more curious than before to find out what is Integral Strategy? And we are also looking forward to explain it in detail over the rest of Leg 11.

Let us share what we mean with ethics embedded or at the core of integral strategy. Everything starts with how do we teach ethics? And it is important to speak about it. I have been a Faculty Professor for Business Ethics to senior year students (last university year) at Escuela Superior de Economía y Negocios (ESEN). Fourteen years have passed since then. Probably if some of them read this blog, they will confirm to you what I told them in class. And all the articles, slides, readings, quizes and movies we used to teach them ethical values. And we are sure many of them don´t remember any of the reading materials, nor the tests, probably neither the ethical-decision making methodologies we taught to them.yes nemo.gif But I am sure all remember that we watched the Disney movie NEMO to teach them about values and virtues. I still remember some of those kids crying of emotion in class when we share this movie to them. Why do you think this has happened? My students age average was between 21 to 22 years old. They belong to the Millennial generation. And we wonder if we did an impact in their life? Did we taught them how to conduct themselves with an integral life? Did we permeate their hearts and souls to behave themselves with ethical values to this day?  Were we successful to introduce ethical decision making in their brains to the level that still nowadays, 14 years later, have they been integral ethical employees and ethical changers in their jobs and personal lives? We wonder…

With more than 200 relevant books and courses about business ethics and how to resolve ethical dilemmas, are we being successful to teach them how to do ethical decision making in their lives? Or have we wasted all these years by offering courses which are useless in our purpose to transform their minds to become ethical movers and shakers… In whatever they decided to do: in their respective industry, economic sector, and/or personal life.

My ESEN students are now between 36 to 38 years old. Many have solid marriages, others have divorced and remarried, and the majority have kids and families. Many went to study master degrees and doctorate studies to high respectable universities in foreign lands, some have reached top corporate levels outside of El Salvador or have started their own companies, and some are also unemployed or putting together the nuts and bolts of their broken dreams (as myself), and we wonder if they were impacted through our courses to become ethical integral strategists… we puzzle over it.

Thank you! See you tomorrow.grande es aquel gif.gif
