Portfolio Analysis: Igniting a long-term spirit in a short-term world (XIII). Getting near to an abstraction of a new portfolio analysis framework.

“Because I´m happy
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you (hey)
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like that’s what you want to do”

Produced by Pharrell Williams, 2014.

Clap along if you know what happiness is to you. Let´s begin with the last song we shared from Pharrell Williams. As you already perceived from us, we are trying to mix some kind of art and tie the know between watercolors, music and our publications.

Pedagogically, every time we write a saga, it is our aim to keep you curious about what is going to come next. The anticipation of what could be displaying. The element of surprise and immeasurable awe is something we are trying to offer to our readers, using non-rhetorical but simple language and elements of teaching by writing. As you already know, we do not want to produce videos, we are committed to literature and water-art production. In such a way, that could make you think, even months away from now about our topics. Maybe in 2 weeks, or in 1 or 3 years you will cross by accident with the song of Pharrell Williams (Happy), or the song of Shakira (Try Everything) or the Gaby Moreno`s “Daydream by design”, and then you will remember the phrase “Portfolio Analysis: Igniting a long-term spirit in a short-term world”.  When it comes to instructing about how to accomplish the integral corporate strategy, we are committed to make you think, today, tomorrow, and whenever is vital.

For us, we clap when we know what the meaning of the word happiness is because we are convinced that families living under the standards of a Middle-Class Income (from US$28,800 to US$175,200 dollars per year) are families that can make choices and can translate their selections of life in possibilities, hope, and optimism in the middle of any type of despair and we clap twice when we do what we want to do for you.

Finding happiness by expanding the middle class (Annual income between US$28,800 to US$175,200 per family of four members). The robustness of the middle class is a privilege in societies that have reached at least a 60% of their populations living under that range. These societies are extremely educated, respectful, honest and they do not impose, neither allow dictatorial leaders. On the contrary, their democracies are sweet and constantly evolving for the better. These societies do not permit narcotraffic, illegal operations, gangs, neither corruption at any level of the societies. Furthermore, if someone is behaving incorrectly, even in little details, everyone is responsible to let it know in private to the person of the wrongdoing. In these societies, everyone is involved to educate for the better, using compassion and a sweet bold attitude. The strengthening of middle-class happiness (contentment) is their most treasured indicator. When at least 60% of each country is middle-class, regardless of the type of occupation, if employed or entrepreneur or artist or public government servant, people tend to be content inside and they express it even in the most particular feature every day, at home, when walking in the streets, when going to school, or when working. Happy people are filled with joy when they know they are able to make a living and choices.

A new definition of Middle Class for Eleonora Escalante Strategy. From the saga: “The Fallacy of the Middle-Class: Overcoming Social Resentment”.

An abstraction about portfolio analysis.

Today we will share our accustomed set of slides. As usual.

The last slide is the abstraction of our new philosophy to design-research portfolio analysis. If you see with careful detail, we are not considering the premise of the financial benchmarks in the first place. But the other way around. We are simply putting the right order in place. We start by asking ourselves how can we provide a middle-class lifestyle to our workers, to ourselves, and to our communities. Each person has their own background, education, branding, and accumulated years of experience; that is why we have a huge range of income for the Middle-Class: Between US$28,800/year to US$175,200/year per family of four. Each manager of its SBU is responsible to provide the means and the sense of middle-class lifestyle to all its employees (including him or herself). Then we calculate how much (revenues) does the SBU has to make per year not to be profitable for the corporate parent, but to make our people happy with a middle-class lifestyle. From here is that we calculate the profit and loss account, the cashflows, the free cash flows, and the forecasting.

The SBU manager starts by knowing that his role is to keep his/her team and stakeholders happy and content, and he or she doesn’t see the Strategic Business Unit as a profit maker for the owners ONLY (increasing shareholder value uniquement), which will happen too, but since his organization is basically not seen as a profit center or cost center, but as a human-centered organization, then the shift happens. In addition, when employees are not seen as pinches human resources, but as the cool powerhouse of the organization, wonderful things happen. God starts to bless.

This is it for today. We will continue on to our next post with the objective of observing how portfolio analysis has been made, and by the end of the saga, you will understand why all these existing frameworks need adjustment. Once we make our SBUs a human-centered organization that ignites a long-term spirit of a “middle-class” edification, then you will see how beautiful is to do business for everyone involved.

Blessings, I leave you enjoying “Walking on Sunshine”. If we begin to adjust our portfolio analysis tools, and we begin to ignite as our first thought in the morning, how can we make our employees be part of the “middle-class” with decency, hard work, a virtuous lifestyle, and long-lasting education. Believe me, trust us, we will be “walking on sunshine”. People only wish to have the necessary middle-class conditions to build their own happiness.

Thank you for reading to me. See you this coming Friday.
