Our Sojourn in Auckland (II). The Cheesecake Factory Uniqueness Analysis Explained.
Good afternoon to all of you. Wishing you a pleasant day.

Mayor and Congress Elections El Salvador Yesterday. Source. EDH
Yesterday we celebrated elections in El Salvador. I am glad everything went well. I went to vote in the morning with my parents, and we visited a couple of voting locations. To my surprise I did not see many youngsters voting at the same moment I was doing it. I remember I was like that before, I did not want to vote. But I changed my mind some years ago when I realized the importance of voting is beyond our PERCEPTION we have about who is chosen. When we realize that many of our thoughts are just perceptions, but not “real facts”, then we also realize that only by electing the right leaders we are able to dismiss the bad leaders. As soon as the winners are confirmed by our Supreme Electoral Court, I will share some opinions about our Elections 2018 over the next days. Preliminary results have positioned a lawyer called Ernesto Muyshondt García-Prieto (From the right party ARENA) as the new Mayor of San Salvador city. Positive changes are coming to our city. And changes will happen at the Congress too. Let´s see what will happen.

I promise I won´t engage in the discussion of political perspectives since I am not a political activist. Moreover, I avoid to be political, but it is worthy for us to understand the context and stage of our Salvadoran Democracy. As mentioned above, I have thought of showing you the PESTLE Analysis during Leg 7 and I will use my country El Salvador, as the example. The PESTLE Framework is an old analytical tool for strategic business planning. It is used for understanding external influences on a business. PESTLE is an acronym which in its expanded form denotes P for Political, E for Economic, S for Social, T for Technological, L for Legal and E for Environmental.
Even though PESTLE probably has been replaced by other frameworks nowadays, it is an easy tool to have in mind when we are trying to understand contexts. PESTLE Analysis can be the oldest of all frameworks. In 1967, Francis Aguilar, a Harvard Professor released a book called “Scanning the Business Environment”, and it was framed at that time under the name ESTP. Over the years, the model evolved to become PESTLE. Yes, we know this is an older model. But I know of people nowadays, who have gotten jobs (acing interviews) by using PESTLE when they are asked about specific contexts in emerging markets. The idea of sharing this model with you is to reframe it and actualize it. Maybe it will help you someday!

Vestas 11th will rejoin the fleet for Leg 7.
Let´s return to our Strategy race. Our sailors are now in Auckland. And we continue our sojourn there. Team Vestas 11th Racing has announced their return to the competition. They will be rejoining the race for Leg 7. The Danish-American team decided to continue, despite the crash accident in Leg 4. And that shows us that no matter the difficulties and circumstances, life is like that. We fail down, we may have accidents, difficulties, economic losses or terrible circumstances in our journey of life, nevertheless, we have to get up again. Stand up and continue. Fix and repair our boat. Our own life. If we have done something wrong, we have to ask for forgiveness. If someone has damaged us, we have to forgive truly and continue sailing. That is life.

Alejandro Guillermo Lozano Artolachipi, I love you very much!
I hope to marry Alejandro Guillermo Lozano Artolachipi this year, and I am looking forward to reaching my personal goals with him. I have waited for years for this to happen. I have gone through difficult passages and economic storms, not once but several times. I have felt down, but I continue no matter what, learning lessons, and moving forward. During these 17 years in Central America, I have waited and waited and waited for him, learning to be patient. It is quite a journey for me to be here. Maybe that was the purpose of all these years of waiting.
Let´s start with our strategy example. Please follow the slides below. We will see the first 4 steps of the Competitive Differentiation Analysis today. We will see the rest of the steps (steps 5 to 8) in my next post. I have tried to be very explanatory with each of the steps. Remember we don´t have all the internal information, and many of the data are approximations. I have spent several days reading about this company, but since I don´t have all the facts, we have done what we can. My aim is to show you the methodology of competitive differentiation analysis, but it is up to each of us to use the most reliable information available. Confirmed and authentic information from the buyers of our beautiful businesses. Otherwise, the results may guide us in different directions, and we don´t want that. Do we?

This is all for today, we will continue in our next publication.
