On eagles wings: Our recovery from Coronavirus (II): Urgency to heal first.
Important Correction Note- 28/May/2020: “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new guidelines warning that antibody test results can have high false-positive rates and should not be used to make decisions about returning people to work, schools, dorms or other places where people congregate”. Given the CDC’s last advice, it is clear for Eleonora Escalante Strategy that serological testing can´t be used when it comes to planning for economic-educational recovery. Please take notice. Serological testing can´t be used because it is inaccurate, and I am correcting all my episodes related to Coronavirus testing accordingly.
I was planning to write this coming Friday 8th, but by observing the Covid19 “lack of common sense” measures adopted by certain countries in their process to open their societies again, I decided to post today. It is a misfortune to observe how mistaken are many leaders by pushing the opening of their economies in a rush. So I found it is imminently, and a priority to publish today. Please read carefully this article, because our privilege to come back to our “new normal” life depends on our actions of today.

How can we move on in times of uncertainty? When in times of unpredictable circumstances that humans can´t control in advance, or in the case of situations that take us by surprise (when we are not ready), without a prevention contingency plan; or when we surf through waves which expand beyond human beings preparedness, such as a natural disaster, an earthquake, a pandemic as the Covid-19, or others of a similar causal agent; how can we move on? How can we survive such “violent exogenous disruptions”? How can we come through?
First of all, we can´t rush the times of understanding the causes of the problem in order for proper healing. The coronavirus is a pathogen biological situation caused by a virus called SARS-CoV-2. It is not a technological virus, neither a defect in a global value chain that has caused the sickness. It is a tiny virus, that we baptized as COVID19 or Novel Coronavirus or generally Coronavirus because of its molecular microscopic shape. The SARS CoV 2 or Novel Coronavirus has a family. This means that Coronaviruses’ visits from its cousins to us are not so new. The Covid19 relatives have come to visit us before: (1) The MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome); (2) the HCoV (Human Coronavirus other than the one that we are handling now), and the SARS virus (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Strain P9). These three Novel Coronavirus relatives have already toured the world in the past. But the big issue with the current SARS-CoV-2 is its non-controlled propagation that has reaches us in every place of the planet. The Coronavirus Pandemic caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2 contagion started in Wuhan (Province of Hubei), China around 4 months ago. And given our global mobility, it started to spread so quickly that today (May 6th) we have reached more than 261,703 casualties or deaths, with more than 3.78 million confirmed cases all over the world. As a business specialist, of course, my domain area transpires and comes out as the first thought every morning. As a corporate strategy artist it is my duty to do innovation (out of the box) in relation to what do companies must achieve to be integrally deployed, but whatever I do, regardless if it involves advisory to a transaction (sell-buy) business or not, at the present moment, is being affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Each country and its respective leaders have tried to find a solution to the problem. As I wrote in my last saga “Losing our brains with disruptive technologies”, we have been spectators of how each country on earth (developed nation or not) has tried to find a solution to the Coronavirus problem. But the puzzle goes beyond the sanitary scope. It stretches the concept of time instance, economic, social, political, environmental, religious, financial, educational, and many other ambiances of our life.
“On eagles wings” saga goes beyond the economics and business premises. At the moment the majority of the most recognized economists in the world, including business and economics faculty professors are also trying to find solutions about how to get out of the pandemic and re-start again. I will try to be integral in relation to the compass of possibilities that merit our thoughts. To keep human life alive is the mission of our endeavors. And this goes beyond the hospital sanitary measures. It requires innovation from everywhere and everyone.
Have we passed the worst of the sanitary crisis? Are we ready to begin again? And each city, village, and country has its own answer. Logically, before proceeding further to extend into the business-economics layout of actions to consider, when it comes to re-open our economies, we have to revisit the first step. We assume that societies have complied properly with a total lockdown for at least 6 weeks (40 days), that is why this isolation period is called quarantine or 40 days of deliverance.
“Stay at home” explained. We explained in our previous articles of the importance of staying at home as a measure of patience and faith that we all together as a team must do. Since the virus has no vaccine or treatment, only by practicing a lockdown, we could be able to restrain the contagion to nothing. Eleonora Escalante Strategy has promoted this solution beyond the word called protection. The reason why we must guard us inside our residences is extremely simple. It is a measure of auto control and solidarity for the rest. If successful, it is also the hope of killing the virus at its origins what should keep us inside our residence. The virus itself can´t survive outside of us for more than let´s say a maximum of one week on average (see the table below).

In consequence, even if the virus is attached to a surface, the only ones who can propagate it are human beings. The virus carriers are us, and the majority of those who propagate the virus are asymptomatic (which means do not show any type of indication or manifestation). That is the big issue here: those of us who are carrying the virus without knowing.
Who is the responsible of the Coronavirus contagion?
We. We all have created this pandemic to this horrible level. Why? because we all have not been able to stay at home for at least 40 days. Each government leader must have to explain this in detail. It is exceedingly pitying that by our own irresponsibility we are keeping this virus alive and transmitting it without mercy. We all humans are destroying our own economies and survival for the long term, simply because we are irresponsible with ourselves and the community. We are putting our employers on a chest Jaque-mate, not just our job sources of income and businesses, but we are opening the door to irrational conspiracy theories to emerge.
This Coronavirus is about mobility. I have already written this in the past. The expansion of Coronavirus is about self-control. It is about how to tame our dynamic human nature which is printed in our DNA (we were created by God to live in motion). So if negligent people move out of home and mix together with others, people are simply negligent enough to transfer the virus from the air and surfaces to others… we are the irresponsible ones that become the same carriers of our own destruction. We, human beings become reckless who spread the virus or get infected by others who were not able to control our mobility. 40 days of being static at home are nothing. If we should have obeyed the quarantine strictly as it should have been in the first place, we probably would be celebrating the slaughter of the Coronavirus by now. But by going out as many countries did, we are killing our economics and financial survival in the long run. By bringing down the possibilities of moving from one place to another, we also help to restrict the expansion of the virus.
The meaning of a successful lockdown. Societies that practiced the lockdown seriously and strictly for at least 40 days and a bit more (regardless of the technologies used for diagnosis, tracing, or tracking cases) have passed this calvary successfully. Societies with a high degree of solidarity for life, with utmost carefulness and a huge level of responsibility, have killed the COVID19 at its roots (without a vaccine). Examples of these countries are the province of Hubei (Wuhan), New Zealand, and Australia. Particularly, these two last countries’ earth science contexts and locations (both are islands) have been blessed with the key to stopping the virus. Their geographical essence of being isolated as islands has helped them tremendously not just to restrain the expansion of the virus, but also they have started to open their economies in between them only (both New Zealand and Australia are already healed). These two islands are also figuring out how to start their business with other societies that are near their territories and have proven to keep their death rates (the number of casualties divided by the number of confirmed cases) to a minimum.

There won´t be an economic-social-political recovery if we don´t heal ourselves first. Only when we have the certainty to be safe enough as much as we can keep our societies with the privilege to be alive, then and only then we can start our path to recovery. In the meantime, please, if your nation has not conquered the battle to the virus, the best is to keep ourselves shielded. Otherwise, a non-successful quarantine will expand our suffering for months. Just remember Even if we find a vaccine, it will take months to be tested and manufactured it massively.
Please I beg you to don´t extend our suffering for months. If we open your societies to trade and commerce all the way (particularly schools), without being healed, without high-level sanitary measures, without social distancing, without disinfecting all that we touch, we all are suiciding ourselves economically for the long run, and we won´t be able to recover from this. There are many ways in which we can keep social distancing in our jobs and other activities which I will share soon, but without the solid foundation of a “healed society”, we simply won´t be able to get out of this.
See you soon. Thank you for reading to me.
